Installation Note 44026: The SAS® Deployment Wizard might start and then stop when you are installing SAS for Microsoft Windows on a Mac operating system with VMWare Fusion
When you are installing SAS for Microsoft Windows on a Mac operating system (OS) with VMware Fusion, the SAS Deployment Wizard might start and then stop. The resulting bootstrap.log file might contain the following error:
Could not create directory: \\vmware-host\Shared Folders\Local Settings\Application Data\
SAS\SASDeploymentWizard\9.2 java.io.IOException: Couldn't get lock for
\\vmware-host\Shared Folders\SDW_%u.log
For information about where the bootstrap log file is located, see SAS Note
35426: "Logs that can be used to troubleshoot SAS® 9.2 (TS2M0) installations."
The problem occurs when the SAS Deployment Wizard is unable to write to the location specified in the bootstrap.log file because the location is a mirrored folder. The mirrored folder exists on the Mac OS, enabling the MAC OS and the virtual machine to see some of the same content.
To resolve this problem, use either of the methods shown below and then retry your SAS installation.
Specify an Alternate Location for the SAS Deployment Wizard Log Files
Use the -datalocation command-line option to specify an alternate location for the SAS Deployment Wizard log files. Choose a location that is not located under the mirrored Shared Folders directory. Use the -datalocation dir option to redirect the path of the log files:
- Select Start ► Run.
- Enter the path to setup.exe and add -datalocation dir
An example might look like this:
C:\SAS Software Depot\setup.exe -datalocation c:\temp
Note: Ensure that the
c:\temp folder exists when you redirect the log file path, using the -datalocation dir option.
- Try the SAS installation again.
Remove the Mirrored Folder
Another method is to remove the mirrored folder from within VMware Fusion. This article from the VMware Knowledge Base explains how to configure a mirrored folder. After thoroughly reviewing the information in this article, you might want to try removing the mirroring on the folder, and then try the SAS installation.
