Usage Note 31989: SAS® Information Map Studio might not start
If SAS Information Map Studio does not start, then lowering the memory allocation often resolves the problem.
The default memory setting for SAS Information Map Studio is 1024m. This value can be changed in the mapstudio.ini file, which is stored in the SAS Information Map Studio installation directory. For example, on Windows, the file might be located here: C:\Program Files\SASHome\SASInformationMapStudio\4.x.
- Make a backup copy of the mapstudio.ini file.
- Open the active copy in a plain text editor.
- Change the value for the -Xmx setting to a lower value such as 512m.
- Save the file.
Note: You might need administrator privileges to save changes to the file.
Here is an example of how the file might appear:
Several factors can cause this issue, including:
- Memory settings on the workstation or network configuration (for example, your site is using a Citrix connection).
- Installation of Microsoft security patch MS06-040 (for more information, see SAS Note 18270).
