After a successful installation of the SAS Add-In for Microsoft Office, you might find that the SAS menu or toolbars are missing in a Microsoft Office product, such as MS-Excel or MS-Word. This could be a problem in which the installation did not completely register the required files during installation time and SAS has not yet been added as a COM Add-In to the Microsoft Office products.
Before proceeding with the regasm
and regsvr32
commands listed
below in Step 4, it is very important that you first examine the following in
Step 1.
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\Excel\Addins\SAS.OfficeAddin.ConnectProxy
Examine the LoadBehavior of the preceding key. The value should be set to 3.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Office\Excel\Addins\SAS.OfficeAddin.Loader.BootstrapConnectProxy
Examine the LoadBehavior of the preceding key. The value should be set to 3.
Note: The preceding registry entries are related to Excel. If you are doing this for Word or PowerPoint, just substitute the Microsoft Office product name instead of Excel.
If it was necessary to change either of the proceeding keys' LoadBehavior, no further action might be required. Open the Office product again to see if there is a SAS menu at this point. If there is no SAS menu, continue to Step 2.
If either of the preceding keys did not exist, jump to step 4.
cmd.
set w
.
Locate windir
. You should find either windir=C:\WINNT
or
windir=C:\Windows
.
You might have to enter the following commands:
cd\
cd Program Files\SAS\Add-In for Microsoft Office
Note: Stay in the
C:\Program Files\SAS\Add-In for Microsoft Office directory when you run
the following regasm
and regsvr32
commands in the next step.
C:\WINNT
or
C:\Windows
). The following example path to the .Net Framework 2.0 directory could vary
slightly. Check to see what folder the .Net Framework is located in before running the
commands.
BEFORE PROCEEDING: If .Net Framework 2.0 is not installed and .Net Framework 1.1 is being used, you will need to edit the paths below appropriately to the v1.1.4322 folder.
Run this command first:
C:\WINNT\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727\regasm.exe /codebase /tlb SAS.OfficeAddin.dll
Run this command second:
C:\WINNT\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727\regasm.exe /codebase SAS.OIBootstrap.dll
Run this command last:
C:\WINNT\system32\regsvr32.exe SAS.OfficeAddin.Loader.dll
Then open the Microsoft Office product and check for a SAS menu. If it is not present, then first
check the Disabled Items list in the Help ► About dialog
(click Help ► About Microsoft
If SAS is still not listed in the COM Add-Ins menu and the appropriate path was used for the correct .Net Framework version in step 4C, then proceed to step 5. You should only proceed to the next step if you have carefully taken all previous steps.
Here is how to add the office.dll file to the GAC - Global Assembly Cache when the .Net Framework version installed is Microsoft .Net Framework 1.1:
Warning: Always back up your registry before you make any registry changes. For assistance, see Windows Help, Microsoft documentation, or the Microsoft Windows Web site. SAS is not responsible when you edit the Windows registry: changes in the Windows registry can render your system unusable and will require that you reinstall the operating system.
