The following steps outline the process for adding SAS
® Text Miner 3.1 to
an existing installation of SAS 9.1.3 with SAS
® Enterprise Miner
™ 5.2.
These steps are specific to Windows systems and are appropriate if
upgrading from SAS Text Miner 2.3. For steps specific to UNIX systems,
please see SAS Note
020367 .
1) Log on to the server or workstation using an administrator account.
Confirm that the "vpd.properties" file exists in the C:\WinNT or
C:\Windows folder. SAS Note 015962
describes potential problems if the vpd.properties file does not exist.
2) Stop all SAS processes. This includes the SAS® Metadata Server, Object
Spawner, and SAS Analytics Platform Server. The SAS® Analytics Platform
server is a Java process, rather than a 'SAS' process.
3) If you are upgrading from SAS Text Miner 2.3, delete the dmine and tmine
folders from within the sasroot directory. Assuming a default
installation, the folders will exist under
"C:\Program Files\SAS\SAS 9.1".
NOTE: This step removes current SAS Enterprise Miner and SAS Text Miner
installation files. SAS Text Miner 3.1 places more of its files within a
folder separate from the SAS Enterprise Miner installation files.
Deleting these two folders ensures you clean up all SAS Text Miner 2.3
installation files.
4) Start the install from the SAS Software Navigator for SAS 9.1.3 using
the SAS® Software Navigator CD contained in the "801 Deployment Tools
Media" section of your installation kit. Installation Revision SE29 and
higher contain the media for SAS Text Miner 3.1.
5) Use "Enterprise Miner Text Miner, one machine" deployment plan file.
NOTE: The "Enterprise Miner Text Miner, two machine" plan file is
incorrect. It does not include the proper deployment components. The
"one machine" plan file is appropriate for the server, even if you have
a multi-tier environment.
6) Check "SAS Foundation" and "Text Miner java client" in the
Installation Options screen. Uncheck all other items -- especially the
Configuration Wizard.
7) The SAS Setup Wizard will launch. When you are prompted that an
existing installation of SAS was found, select "Add components to SAS".
In the Select Components screen, check only "SAS Text Miner." Other SAS®
Foundation products are not required.
NOTE: You can select other SAS Foundation products to add at this time.
Be aware that if you install a SAS Foundation product which has already
been installed, the installation process will replace the current
product files. Any Hot Fixes you installed prior to this update will
need to be reinstalled.
8) SAS Text Miner Java Client and Mid-Tier and Desktop Client Service
Pack installations will run without further prompting.
9) After installation is complete, perform the post-installation steps
for SAS Text Miner 3.1:

SAS Text Miner 3.1:

Start the SAS Metadata Server, Object Spawner, and SAS Analytics
Platform Server.
