System Requirements
SAS® Visual Statistics 7.2

Overview

SAS Visual Statistics is available for both distributed and non-distributed SAS LASR Analytic Server deployments. These system requirements apply to both LASR deployments. The headings below indicate whether components apply to a specific LASR deployment.

SAS Visual Statistics 7.2 requires SAS® Visual Analytics 7.2. See the separate system requirements for SAS Visual Analytics 7.2 for more information.

Server Tier Requirements

SAS Visual Statistics Server

Please select a target environment:

The SAS Visual Statistics Server component must be installed on the same computer as SAS Visual Analytics.

SAS Visual Statistics Server includes a standard SAS/ACCESS engine of choice for transactional data.

Teradata and Greenplum must use the Remote Embedded Process (REP) to achieve parallel loading. To use Remote Embedded Process, you must install the appropriate SAS/ACCESS interface engine on the server tier.

SAS LASR Analytic Server (Distributed LASR) on Linux for x64

  • SAS High-Performance Deployment for Hadoop 2.8

Supported Environments:
  • Oracle Linux 6.1 (64-bit version) on the x64 chip family
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.1 (64-bit version) on the x64 chip family
  • SUSE Linux Enterprise System 11 SP1 (64-bit version) on the x64 chip family

SAS Visual Analytics 7.2. which is required to run SAS Visual Statistics, supports multiple storage options, with procurement and installation by the customer:

Co-located Storage:

  • SAS High-Performance Deployment for Hadoop 2.8 is provided.
  • The following alternate options are supported, with procurement and installation by the customer:
    • Cloudera CDH 4.1
    • Cloudera CDH 4.4
    • Cloudera CDH 4.5
    • Cloudera CDH 5.0
    • Cloudera CDH 5.1
    • Hortonworks HDP 2.0
    • IBM InfoSphere BigInsights 2.1.2
    • Intel Hadoop 3.0.2
    • Pivotal HD 1.1
  • Co-located storage for Teradata and EMC Greenplum is no longer supported for new installations. To load data in parallel from these providers, use the Remote Embedded Process (REP). To use Remote Embedded Process, you must install the appropriate SAS/ACCESS interface engine on the server tier.

Note: Base SAS, ACCESS, and SAS Visual Analytics can either be installed on the head node of the commodity hardware (symmetric) or on separate hardware from the commodity hardware nodes (asymmetric). This architecture enables you to install the SAS Visual Analytics, Distributed Mode server-tier Base SAS components on Windows for x64 while working with the Linux for x64 LASR Grid.

SAS Metadata Server

Please select a target environment:

SAS recommends deploying SAS Metadata Server on a 64-bit host system. The SAS Metadata Server is multi-threaded, and multi-core server hardware (typically quad core or higher) is therefore recommended. A dedicated machine for the SAS Metadata Server is recommended to simplify tuning, management, and diagnostics, but is not required. The disk I/O performance of any server-class system should be sufficient. Memory requirements are highly dependent on the product mix and usage, but 8 GB of RAM are sufficient for most large deployments. For many deployments, 4 GB of RAM are sufficient and should be considered a minimum, unless the specific deployment is tested and verified to require less memory.

SAS Visual Analytics Mobile Clients (SAS Mobile BI) is available for Apple and Android devices via free downloads from app stores.

Hardware Requirements

SAS Visual Analytics (required for SAS Visual Statistics) requires a minimum of a 4 server, 16 core environment (4 servers X 4 core) commodity hardware with Intel-Xeon architecture with 16 GB of RAM per core (256 GB total).
