System Requirements
SAS® Factory Miner 15.2

Overview

Some software that is included in this package is restricted to use that falls within the scope of data-mining activities.

Base SAS, SAS/STAT, and SAS Enterprise MinerTM are required for SAS Factory Miner but are licensed separately.

To keep pace with changes to third-party technologies, SAS has adopted a general policy of supporting one or more baseline major versions, subsequent minor updates, and subsequent major versions for each officially supported operating system. Only the supported baseline major versions are listed in this document. The full SAS Support policy governing third-party software can be found at https://support.sas.com/resources/thirdpartysupport/baseline_plus.html.

As part of this policy, SAS strongly encourages customers to install the latest operating-system service packs.

Server Tier Requirements

Note: The SAS Advanced Analytics Data Server is configured as part of the SAS Factory Miner Deployment. The data server requires a minimum of 6 GB of shared memory.

SAS Factory Miner Server

Select a platform:

Base SAS, SAS/STAT, SAS Enterprise Miner, and SAS Factory Miner must be installed on the same machine. Base SAS and SAS/STAT are separately licensed.

SAS Metadata Server

Select a platform:

SAS makes the following recommendations for SAS Metadata Server deployments:

  • a 64-bit host system
  • a dedicated machine to simplify tuning, management, and diagnostics
  • multi-core server hardware because SAS Metadata Server is multi-threaded
  • four or more cores for production deployments

The disk I/O performance of any server-class system should be sufficient. Memory requirements are highly dependent on the product mix and usage, but 8 GB of RAM are sufficient for most large deployments. For many deployments, 4 GB of RAM are sufficient and should be considered a minimum, unless the specific deployment is tested and verified to require less memory.

SAS Data Servers

SAS Factory Miner contains the SAS data server SAS Advanced Analytics Common Data Server, which requires additional configuration.

The size of the data server is large.

Note: When you configure your software, the size of each data server must be considered.

Before you install, update, or add products and solutions that result in the deployment of one or more SAS data servers to the same machine, kernel parameter changes for shared memory and semaphores are required. For details about configuration of small, medium, and large data servers, see the section titled Initial Configuration Recommendations in the "Tuning the PostgreSQL Data Server" section of SAS 9.4 Web Applications: Tuning for Performance and Scalability.

Middle Tier Requirements

Starting with SAS 9.4M7, the SAS Web Server (a specific version of the Apache HTTP Server) that is delivered with the Middle Tier cannot be configured on SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11. Install the SAS Web Server on SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 12 or another supported operating system. As an alternative, you can choose not to install the SAS Web Server.

SAS Factory Miner Mid-Tier

Select a platform:

The SAS Factory Miner Mid-Tier Server must be installed on the same platform as the SAS Enterprise Miner Mid-Tier Server.

Client Tier Requirements

SAS Factory Miner Client

The use of SAS Factory Miner Clients is contractually restricted to data-mining activities.

SAS Factory Miner Client allows for unlimited users.
