The operating system releases listed in this document are typically the minimum level of supported environments. Later versions may be supported, as described in SAS® Third-Party Software Requirements - Baseline and Higher Support.
Base SAS and SAS/STAT must be installed on the server for SAS Enterprise Miner licenses. They are separately licensed.
All server-tier machines require a minimum of 4 GB of memory plus 2 GB for each concurrent user.
SAS Enterprise Miner requires an instance of the Java Runtime Environment (JRE), which is provided by SAS and installed by the SAS Deployment Wizard. SAS recommends deploying SAS Metadata Server on a 64-bit host system. The SAS Metadata Server is multi-threaded, and multi-core server hardware (typically quad core or higher) is therefore recommended. A dedicated machine for the SAS Metadata Server is recommended to simplify tuning, management, and diagnostics, but is not required. The disk I/O performance of any server-class system should be sufficient. Memory requirements are highly dependent on the product mix and usage, but 8 GB of RAM are sufficient for most large deployments. For many deployments, 4 GB of RAM are sufficient and should be considered a minimum unless the specific deployment is tested and verified to require less memory.
By default, the SAS Metadata Server is installed on the same machine as the SAS Enterprise Miner Server. However, the SAS Metadata Server may be installed on a separate machine with prior approval from SAS sales management.
All middle-tier machines require a minimum of 8 GB of memory.

The minimum memory requirement for SAS Enterprise Miner Thin Clients is 2 GB, but 4 GB are recommended.
Note: Java Web Start can be used to access the SAS Enterprise Miner application. Java Standard Edition version 8 is supported to launch SAS Enterprise Miner using the Java Web Start client. JRE 1.7 or higher must be installed on the client machine.
