Viewing ESRI Maps

Overview of the Map Viewer

If ESRI mapping is enabled for the data source that you are viewing, you can use the map viewer to browse the map.
To open the map viewer, select Viewthen selectData Viewerthen selectMap from the main menu bar. The map viewer is available only if a map service is defined for the current data source in the SAS Metadata Repository. In addition, the hierarchy that contains geographic information must be included in the current data query.

Concepts for Map Data

If ESRI mapping is enabled for your data source, one or more hierarchies are defined as region identifiers. Region identifiers associate the values in your data source with regions in the ESRI map.
The map viewer can display only one value for each member of a region identifier hierarchy. As a result, you must select a single member for each of the other hierarchies, and you must select a single measure. By default, the map viewer selects the first member for each hierarchy and the first measure.
For example, your cube contains a Geography hierarchy, a Time hierarchy, a Sales measure, and an Expense measure. If Geography is the region identifier, you can display 2004 sales data for each region by selecting Year=2004 for the Time hierarchy, and then selecting the Sales measure.
To select the data for the map, use the Data Crossing tab of the Properties dialog box. For more information, see Specify Properties for the Map Viewer.
