Specify Properties for the Map Viewer

To specify the properties for a map viewer:
  1. On the menu bar for the viewer, click Properties.
  2. On the Map tab of the Properties dialog box, specify the following options:
    Size
specifies the size of the map viewer. Select Small, Medium, Large, or Custom. The default value is Medium.
If you select Custom, specify the Width and Height in pixels.
    Color regions using
specifies the method that is used to divide the data into value ranges. Select one of the following values:
    Equivalent intervals
selects value ranges at equally spaced intervals. For example, if your values are {1, 3, 8, 9} and the map uses three value ranges, the values are divided into the following ranges: {1–3, 4–6, 7–9}.
    Natural Breaks
selects value ranges by using an algorithm to find natural value groupings in your data.
For example, if your values are {1, 2, 5, 5, 6, 10, 11} and the map uses three value ranges, the values are divided into the following ranges: {1–2, 5–6, 10–11}.
    Quantiles
selects value ranges that contain equal numbers of values.
For example, if your values are {1, 3, 9, 11, 11, 12} and the map uses two value ranges, the values are divided into the following ranges: {1–9, 11–12}.
    Standard deviations
selects value ranges that contain equal numbers of values.
For example, if your values are {1, 3, 9, 11, 11, 12} and the map uses two value ranges, the values are divided into the following ranges: {1–9, 11–12}.
The default value is Equivalent intervals.
    Number of colors
specifies the number of value ranges that the data is divided into.
    Select region
specifies the color for regions of the map that are selected for filtering. Click the drop-down list to open the color palette, and then select a color. Click Automatic from the color palette to restore the default color.
  3. On the Layer tab, select the layers from the ESRI data that you want to display. Note that some layers are displayed only when you zoom in by a specific amount.
  4. On the Data Crossing tab, select the data that you want to display in the map:
    1. Select the Measure that you want to use.
    2. In the Dimensions pane, select one member from each hierarchy level.
    3. Click right arrow to add the selected members to the Selected pane.
The Show crossing information check box specifies whether the current data crossing is displayed in the map viewer.
  5. When you have finished specifying the properties, click OK to return to the main Visual Data Explorer page.
