To create
and apply a filter:

Select
DataFilters from the main menu bar. The Filters dialog box shows
a list of all of the data items in your current query.

Select
the hierarchy that you want to base the filter on, and then click
Edit.

(Optional)
Select a
Predefined filter to import. You
can create predefined filters by using SAS Information Map Studio.
Note: The
Predefined drop-down list is not available if the information
map does not contain predefined filters.
Some predefined
filters might not be available, depending on how the filters were
created.

(Optional)
Select a member property to base the filter on. To base the filter
on a member property, select
For, and then
select a member property from the drop-down list.
Note: The
For field is available only if you are viewing data
that contains member properties.

Select
a
Condition for the filter:
specifies that a matching
value must match the filter value exactly.
specifies that a matching
value must not match the filter value exactly.
Relative time filter (date/time data
only)
specifies a value or
a range of values, relative to dates in the data. For example, you
can create a filter that selects the two years before the last date
in the data. The selection changes as the data is updated.

In the
Value(s) field, specify the value or values for the
filter:
-
If you selected
Is
equal to or
Is not equal to,
and you did not select a member property, select one or more hierarchy
members. You can select hierarchy members by using either the
Browse tab or the
Search tab.
lists the hierarchy
as a tree. Expand the nodes to locate the members that you want to
select. Click
to add the selected members to the filter. Click
to add all of the available members to the filter.
enables you to search
for data items. Select a search condition for the filter:
matches values that
contain the search string.
matches values that
match the search string exactly. The search is not case sensitive.
matches values that
contain the search string at the start of the value.
matches values that
contain the search string at the end of the value.
matches values by using
a regular expression. You can use wildcard characters in the search
string. The character
?
matches any
single character, and the character
*
matches any number of characters.
For example,
*st
matches both
East
and
West
.
Note: To match the
literal characters
?
and
*
, use the escape character
\
.
After you have selected
a search condition, enter your search string in the text field, and
then click
Search. The matching hierarchy
members appear in the selection box. To add specific search results
to the filter, select the members that you want to use and then click
. To add all of the search results to the filter,
click
.
You can manage the
selected filter items by using the following buttons:

removes the selected
items from the filter.

moves the selected
items up.

moves the selected
items down.

and you selected a member property in the
For field, enter a value in the text field.

If you selected
Relative
time filter, specify the time values:

From the
Period type drop-down list, select the
level of the time hierarchy that the filter will use.

Select
the type of filter that you want to specify:
selects the number
of periods that you specify in the text field, relative to the starting
period and ending period.
selects the interval
between the starting period and the ending period that you specify.

If you
selected
N periods where N=, specify whether to include periods from the
starting period (
Starting period) or from
the ending period (
Ending period).

Select
the starting period and the ending period, as appropriate.

specifies the
earliest period in the data.
|
|
specifies a particular
period. Select a value from the selection box.
|
|
|
specifies the
most recent period in the data.
|
|
specifies a particular
period. Select a value from the selection box.

Click
OK to return to the first page of the Filters dialog
box.

Click
OK to apply the new filter and return to the main Visual
Data Explorer page. The new filter is displayed in the
Applied Filters viewer.
You can
minimize (
), restore(
), or remove(
) the
Applied Filters viewer
by using the appropriate buttons.
If you
remove the
Applied Filters viewer, you can
add it by selecting
ViewApplied Filters on the main
menu bar.
