Create a Filter

To create and apply a filter:
  1. Select Datathen selectFilters from the main menu bar. The Filters dialog box shows a list of all of the data items in your current query.
  2. Select the hierarchy that you want to base the filter on, and then click Edit.
  3. (Optional) Select a Predefined filter to import. You can create predefined filters by using SAS Information Map Studio.
Note: The Predefined drop-down list is not available if the information map does not contain predefined filters.
Some predefined filters might not be available, depending on how the filters were created.
  4. (Optional) Select a member property to base the filter on. To base the filter on a member property, select For, and then select a member property from the drop-down list.
Note: The For field is available only if you are viewing data that contains member properties.
  5. Select a Condition for the filter:
    Is equal to
specifies that a matching value must match the filter value exactly.
    Is not equal to
specifies that a matching value must not match the filter value exactly.
Relative time filter (date/time data only)
specifies a value or a range of values, relative to dates in the data. For example, you can create a filter that selects the two years before the last date in the data. The selection changes as the data is updated.
  6. In the Value(s) field, specify the value or values for the filter:
    • If you selected Is equal to or Is not equal to, and you did not select a member property, select one or more hierarchy members. You can select hierarchy members by using either the Browse tab or the Search tab.
      Browse
lists the hierarchy as a tree. Expand the nodes to locate the members that you want to select. Click Move selected items to the target list Icon to add the selected members to the filter. Click Move all items to the target list Icon to add all of the available members to the filter.
      Search

      Exactly matches

      Starts with
matches values that contain the search string at the start of the value.
      Ends with
matches values that contain the search string at the end of the value.
      Matches pattern
matches values by using a regular expression. You can use wildcard characters in the search string. The character ? matches any single character, and the character * matches any number of characters.
For example, *st matches both East and West.
Note: To match the literal characters ? and *, use the escape character \.
After you have selected a search condition, enter your search string in the text field, and then click Search. The matching hierarchy members appear in the selection box. To add specific search results to the filter, select the members that you want to use and then click Move selected items to the target list Icon. To add all of the search results to the filter, click Move all items to the target list Icon.
