Adding Federation Server Connections

If a SAS Federation Server is available on your site, you can use the Data riser to connect to that server and access the DSN connections that are managed by that server. It is assumed that these connections have been created on the SAS Federation Server, and you have been told which connections are appropriate to use in DataFlux Data Management Studio.

The properties dialog for the Federation Server connection includes a credentials section. Typically the best option is to have the DataFlux Authentication Server administrator create a domain and login for the Federation Server. Then, specify that domain in the Federation Server connection dialog. For more information about DataFlux Authentication Server domains, see Adding Authentication Server Domains and Users.

NoteNote: Use alphanumeric characters only in a SAS Federation Server password.

Perform the following steps to add a Federation Server connection on the Data riser:

  1. Click the Data riser in DataFlux Data Management Studio.
  2. Select the Data Connections folder.
  3. Select the New Data Connection menu in the Data Connections pane on the right. Then select Federation Server Connection to display the Federation Server Connection dialog.
  4. Enter a name and description for the new connection into the appropriate fields. Use alphanumeric characters only in your connection names.
  5. Enter the host name for the Federation Server in the Server field.
  6. Enter the Port number.
  7. Review the Compression setting field to ensure that you are using the appropriate level of compression. Change the setting, if appropriate.
  8. Specify credentials in the Credentials section of the dialog. To avoid having to enter Federation Server credentials each time that you want to display the DSNs on the server, specify an Authentication Server domain in this area. Alternatively, you can specify a user name and password.
  9. Note that the connection string created with the new connection is displayed in the Connection String field. You can test the connection by clicking Test Connection.
  10. Click OK to save the new connection and return to the Data riser.
  11. Refresh the Data riser in order to see the new connection in the Data Connections folder in the left pane. Select View, and then select Refresh from the main menu. The new connection should appear in the Data Connections folder.
  12. To verify a connection, double-click the connection in the Data Connections folder in the left pane. Enter any required credentials. If the connection works, you will be able to see Federation Server DSNs the right panel, as shown in the next figure.

In the figure above, HR ODBC is a connection to an Oracle database; SAP DSN is a connection to an SAP system, and Training Database is a connection to a SQL Server database. For more information about Federation Server DSNs, see the SAS Federation Server User's Guide and the SAS Federation Server Administrator's Guide.
