CONFIGURING THE SAS V6.12 32-bit ODBC DRIVER

Download the SAS V6.12 32-bit ODBC driver from http://www.sas.com. Select Service & Support, then select Demos and Downloads, under SAS System Software Products, select ODBC Drivers, under 'For Version 6 of the SAS System', select SAS ODBC Drivers, select 32-bit version of the SAS ODBC Driver. After downloading the file, run SASODBC.EXE to install the driver. At the end of the install process, a dialog box appears that lists the ODBC datasources, close this box so that the setup program will complete.

Below you will find step by step instructions for configuring the SAS V6.12 32-bit ODBC driver. This ODBC driver is implemented on the Microsoft Windows 9x and Windows NT platforms. For more detailed information, refer to the SAS ODBC Driver Technical Report: User's Guide and Programmer's Reference.

 1. Go to Start | Programs | ODBC | 32bit ODBC Administrator
 2. The ODBC Data Source Administrator box will appear. (The User DSN window will
be the active window) -- Select ADD
 3. Choose SAS and select Finish
 4. The SAS ODBC Driver Configuration box will appear. Fill in the fields as
     follows:

-- Data Source Name: enter a name (The name must begin with a letter, ie. SAS32)
     -- Description: leave blank
     -- Server: leave blank

 5. Choose the SERVERS tab and fill in the fields as follows:

-- Server Name: enter a name (it must be less than 8 characters, ie. LOCAL)
     -- Password: leave blank
-- Access Method: select DDE (Make sure Single User Local Server is selected)

NOTE: DDE is used to access local SAS data sets. For information on
configuring a SAS server to access SAS data sets cross host using TCP
refer to the SAS ODBC Driver Technical Report: User's Guide and
        Programmer's Reference.

 6. Select the Configure button
 7. The Local DDE Options box will appear. Fill in the fields as follows:

-- SAS Path: specify the fully qualified path name for the SAS executable (SAS.EXE)
that you use to start a SAS session. If you are unsure of that location, go to
your SAS Icon and right click -- select Properties -- select Shortcut. Under
Target check the directory and subdirectory location of the sas.exe.
-- Working Directory: fully qualified path name for the directory you
use as the SAS working directory.
-- SAS Parameter: should not need to change this unless SAS is on a
network and you have a local config.sas. In this case, add the config option
to your parameters. (ie. -config c:\sas\config.sas)

 8. Click OK
 9. This brings you back to the SAS ODBC Driver Configuration box -- NOW select
ADD. This will add the server to the list of Servers.
10. Now select the Libraries tab. Fill in the fields as follows:

libref in the SAS Libname statement. NOTE: Microsoft Access users will need the
Library name USER in order to create or update SAS data sets from MSACCESS.
-- Host File Name: type in the location of the SAS datasets (ie. c:\foo)
-- Leave the rest of the boxes blank
-- Then click ADD -- this libname will be added to your libraries. You can add as
       many libraries as you like.
