Usage Note 7812: "Reboot pending" error message appears during installation
During installation, you might receive the following message:
Reboot pending.
This error message can appear due to InstallShield setup.exe issues.
The most common are insufficient permissions or corrupted files.
Here are several possible solutions:
1. If you are using a Windows NT or a Windows 2000 machine,
you might have insufficient permissions on the machine.
Make certain that you have administrative permissions
so that you can run the setup program.
2. Make sure that the ikernel.exe is not in memory. If it is,
and no installation setup is running at the time, end that task and
restart the system:
a. Select Ctrl+Alt+Del.
b. Select Task Manager.
c. Select Processes tab.
d. Inspect the list of names under Image Name.
e. Select ikernel.exe.
f. Select End Process button.
g. Select Ctrl+Alt+Del.
h. Select Task Manager.
i. Select Shutdown button.
3. Delete all files in the Windows temp directory, reboot and retry
the installation.
4. Delete the Program Files\Common Files\InstallShield\Engine folder.
5. Reinstall Internet Explorer (IE) 5.x or 6
6. On NT, reinstall the current service pack or install the latest SP.
7. Check for sufficient DCOM permissions. Verify the DCOM permissions
by following these steps:
a. Navigate to the task bar.
b. Select Start>Run.
c. In the Open field, type dcomcnfg.
If you are not allowed to do this final step or receive an error
message, then you do not have DCOM permissions and you need to get
them. Usually, getting administrative permissions for the machine
will get you DCOM permission. See your system administrator to get
permissions.
8. If you are trying to install to a Windows 98 machine, download and
run dcom98.exe from the following site:
http://www.microsoft.com/com/dcom/dcom98/download.asp
Now, rerun the SAS installation procedure.
