Usage Note 4816: Enhanced Editor autosave feature creates a file: autosave of
filename.$as
The Enhanced Editor includes an autosave feature that creates a file
that looks like the following:
Autosave of filename.$as
Filename corresponds to the name of the file that you are editing.
This file is created in the system temporary file location. That
location is usually c:\temp. Note that this temp location pertains to
Windows 9x, ME, and NT. The temp location for Windows 2000 and XP can be
different.
To check the location on your machine, do the following:
1. Select Start>Run.
2. Type cmd.
3. Press Enter.
4. Type set.
5. Press Enter.
Notice the location of temp.
In the situation where a file has been started in an editor but has not
been saved, the file is untitled. But the Enhanced Editor autosave names
the file something like the following:
Autosave of Untitled_A.$as
"A" corresponds to any letter of the alphabet.
The filename of an autosave from the Program Editor is always "pgm.asv"
whether it has a title or not.
Note: You can save some effort by searching on your machine using the
Microsoft search tool from the Start button and by searching for
autosave*.* or *.*as.
Note: For WinXP machines, select Start>Search>All files and folders,
select Advanced, and check Search hidden files and folders. This
selection ensures that all files and directories, including hidden
ones, are searched.
Additional Information about autosave used with the Program Editor and
the Enhanced Editor can be found in SAS Note #004115 .
