Usage Note 13838: "NOTE: Unable to open SASUSER.REGSTRY. WORK.REGSTRY will be opened
instead" message when starting SAS
When you start SAS, the following messages might appear in the Log
window:
NOTE: Unable to open SASUSER.REGSTRY. WORK.REGSTRY will be opened
instead.
NOTE: All registry changes will be lost at the end of the session.
NOTE: This SAS session is using a registry in WORK. All changes
will be lost at the end of this session.
This note is caused by opening more than one SAS session, setting the
-RSASUSER option, or using a corrupt regstry.sas7bitm file.
To determine the cause do the following:
1. Close all SAS sessions.
2. Open one SAS session.
3. If the error is gone, then the problem was more than one
SAS session open.
4. If the error persists, then submit the following SAS code:
proc options option=rsasuser; run;
5. Check the log for results. If this entry appears in the Log
window
RSASUSER Open SASUSER library as READONLY
then the -RSASUSER has been set. This option makes the SASUSER
library read-only so that more than one SAS session can
use any display manager customizations and have access to
any automatic libname definitions stored in the regstry.sas7bitm
file. If you do not want this set, then remove the -RSASUSER
option from the SAS config file (sasv8.cfg or sasv9.cfg file)
or from the SAS startup command. If you do want this option
set, then you can disregard the Notes in the log. Yet, be
aware that any customizations will not be saved.
If this entry appears in the Log window:
NORSASUSER Do not open SASUSER library as READONLY
then your regstry.sas7bitm file is probably corrupted.
6. If your regstry.sas7bitm file is corrupted, you can rename the
existing file and SAS generates a new one at startup with
the default settings. To determine the location of the
regstry.sas7bitm file do the following:
a. In the SAS Explorer window, double-click on Libraries.
b. Right-click on SASUSER, and choose Properties.
c. Beside General Properties, click the down arrow.
d. The drive letter and directories appear in the pull-down
window.
To rename the file, do the following:
a. Exit all SAS sessions.
b. Through Windows Explorer, go to your SASUSER directory as
determined above.
c. Rename regstry.sas7bitm to regstry.old.
If a dialog box appears saying that the file will become
unusable, click OK.
d. Restart SAS.
