Creating a Server Connection Profile

Overview Server Connection Profiles

SAS Bridge for Esri uses server connection profiles to communicate with the SAS Metadata Server and connect to SAS Workspace Servers.

Before you can read stored processes from the SAS Metadata Server, you must create a server connection profile.

If you have SAS Enterprise Guide, then you can use a file to update your profile automatically.

Create a Server Connection Profile

To create a server connection profile, perform the following steps:

  1. Open ArcMap. If the SAS toolbar is not visible, then follow these instructions to add the SAS toolbar.

  2. Select SAS Server Connections from the SAS toolbar. The Connections window appears.

  3. In the left pane, select Profiles. The right pane displays any existing connection profiles.

  4. Click Add to create a new profile. The Create Profile window appears.

  5. Enter the connection information for the SAS Metadata Server that you want to use, and then click Save.

  6. Select the connection profile that you want to use, and then click Set Active. SAS Bridge for Esri automatically uses this profile to retrieve SAS metadata.

  7. In the left pane, select Servers. The right pane displays a list of the SAS Workspace Servers that are defined in the metadata server.
Note: If you entered incorrect connection information for the metadata server, then an error message appears. Return to Steps 3 through 5 and ensure that you specified the correct information.

  8. Select the workspace server that you want to use from the drop-down list.

Note: Connection profiles are shared with SAS Enterprise Guide. If you modify a profile in ArcMap, then that profile is also changed for Enterprise Guide.

Configure Automatic Updates for Connection Profiles

SAS Bridge for Esri can update connection profile information from a shared profile configuration file that is created in SAS Enterprise Guide. For more information about creating a profile configuration file, see the Help for SAS Enterprise Guide.

To configure automatic profile updates, perform the following steps:

  1. Open ArcMap. If the SAS toolbar is not visible, then follow these instructions to add the SAS toolbar.

  2. Select SAS Server Connections from the SAS toolbar. The Connections window appears.

  3. In the left pane, select Updates.

  4. Select Update configuration automatically, and then specify the location of the update file.

  5. Click Check for updates now to check the file for updates.
