Problem Note 70800: Writing to Microsoft SQL Server fails with "ERROR: CLI describe error: [SAS][ODBC 20101 driver][Microsoft SQL Server]..."

DetailsHotfixAboutRate It

Errors might occur after you install the DataDirect ODBC Driver for Microsoft SQL Server 9.45 Hot Fix M2L005.

The first indication of this issue is that the error incorrectly includes the text "[SAS][ODBC 20101 driver][Microsoft SQL Server]".  The remainder of the error message is typically not correct, but can include the following:

  • ERROR: CLI describe error: [SAS][ODBC 20101 driver][Microsoft SQL Server]Invalid object name 'TableName'.
: [SAS][ODBC 20101 driver][Microsoft SQL Server]The metadata could not be determined because every code path results in an error; see previous errors for some of these.
  • Using PROC SQL step to create a temporary table and load data into from this SAS Dataset fails with Error below.
ERROR: Error attempting to CREATE a DBMS table. ERROR: CLI execute error: [SAS][ODBC 20101 driver][Microsoft SQL Server]Line 1:Specified scale 27 is invalid.

The only workaround is to revert to a backup of your installation.
