The SAS Environment Manager mid-tier web application (/SASEnvironmentMgrMidTier) fails to load and returns an HTTP 500 error for SAS 9.4M8 environments that meet the following criteria:

• Separate internal and external connection properties are configured for the environment. The most common application of these properties is when you configure an external reverse proxy in front of the SAS Web Server. (See Configure the Middle Tier to Use an Existing Customer Reverse Proxy for additional information.)
• The environment is configured with security restrictions that prohibit SAS® Web Application Server from reaching the defined external connection URI via the network.

Note: If you receive an HTTP 500 error for the SAS Environment Manager mid-tier web application but the two criteria listed above are not met, you are not experiencing the specific issue described in this SAS Note.

This issue occurs because the invocation of the SAS Environment Manager mid-tier web application results in the SASServer2_1 SAS Web Application Server instance making a request to SASWIPClientAccess using the external URL. This request fails due to the second bullet point above. As a result, the SAS Environment Manager mid-tier web application fails to load and returns an HTTP 500 error.
