Problem Note 70428: An upgrade-in-place to a later version of SAS® 9.4M7(TS1M7) fails at the Update Content stage after applying Hot Fix M3B003 or later
If you complete steps similar to the following, SAS® Deployment Wizard fails on the Update Content stage for SAS® Web Infrastructure Platform due to SAS® Web Application Servers not starting properly:
- Deploy SAS® 9.4M7 (Rev. 940_22w08 or later).
- Apply Hot Fix M3B003 (or later)
- Perform an upgrade-in-place (UIP) to a later version of SAS 9.4M7.
As a result, the following error occurs in SAS Deployment Wizard:
Bad response from object type Machine (50) creation - 404 at http://<hostname>:80/SASWIPClientAccess/rest/types/objects For troubleshooting tips, see SAS Note 66003 at https://support.sas.com/kb/66003
This error occurs because the hot fix delivers an updated sas.vfabrictcsvr.jar file to be used by SAS Web Application Server. But, when the UIP occurs, that JAR file is reverted to an older version, and the updated SAS Web Application Servers cannot start.
Workaround
To circumvent this issue, complete the following steps:
- At the time of failure in the UIP, click Stop to exit SAS Deployment Wizard.
- Start SAS® Deployment Manager with the -reinstallhotfix parameter.
- Select Ignore previous deployment attempt and start again when prompted.
- Click Apply Hot Fixes to apply M3B003 (or later).
- Start SAS Deployment Manager a second time.
- Click Update Existing Configuration and let the configuration run to completion.
