Due to possible security risks that were introduced by ActiveX, the SAS/GRAPH Control for ActiveX has been deprecated and will not be available in SAS^® 9.4M8 (TS1M8) software depots for installation on SAS client computers.

Beginning with SAS Enterprise Guide 8.3 Update 7 and SAS Add-In for Microsoft Office 8.3 Update 7, several native graph tasks will no longer display a graph preview in the Task dialog box. The chart preview display used ActiveX technology and has been removed. For example, prior to Update 7, the Bar Chart task displayed a preview similar to the following:

After you install Update 7, the graph preview will no longer appear in several graph tasks.

In Update 7 for SAS Enterprise Guide 8.3 and SAS Add-In for Microsoft Office 8.3, if the SAS/GRAPH Control for ActiveX is not present on the client machine, then the ActiveX graph format option is not present in the Options dialog box. Also, in SAS Add-In for Microsoft Office 8.3 Update 7, the Create Microsoft Excel charts when possible option is disabled when the SAS/GRAPH ActiveX Control is not present.

When an existing SAS Enterprise Guide project is executed on a machine where the ActiveX graph control is not present, the graph output will be replaced with the default graph format. When existing SAS content is refreshed in Microsoft Office documents on a machine without the ActiveX graph control, the results will be replaced with the default graph format in the SAS Panel. Users will need to reinsert the refreshed results into the Microsoft Office document.
