The EGOptions.xml and ConfigurationVx.xml files are both critical SAS files for configuring personal user options in SAS® Enterprise Guide® and for initial custom profile connection information. Both of these files are used when you launch SAS Enterprise Guide and are processed in a specific order.
Refer to the sections below for more information about the order of precedence for processing these files.
The EGOptions.xml file is a SAS configuration file that contains various user-specific configuration settings for SAS Enterprise Guide. Some of these settings include window size and position, default project locations, and user preferences. The EGOptions.xml file is typically located in the C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\SAS\EnterpriseGuide\<version>\ directory. When you launch the executable for SAS Enterprise Guide, it processes the EGOptions.xml file by checking for the file in the locations in the order below:
1. If you set the /option launch argument with a defining path to the EGOptions.xml file, as shown in the following command line:
2. The %APPDATA%\SAS\EnterpriseGuide\<version>\EGOptions.xml directory.
3. In the SEGuide.exe installation directory, as shown in the following example:
4. Otherwise, if the file is not found, the default options are used.
Note: %APPDATA% is an environment variable in Microsoft Windows that resolves to the current user's Application Data folder regardless of the specific path or user name. This folder is typically hidden and is used to store user-specific settings and data.
The ConfigurationVx.xml file stores user connection profile configuration information (for example, the server name, port number, or login credentials) and is used for creating a custom initial connection profile for deployment of SAS Enterprise Guide. As opposed to storing and updating the connection profile information centrally, the ConfigurationVx.xml file helps to deliver the desired profile directly to each client during deployment. When you launch SAS Enterprise Guide, it checks the following locations are checked for the ConfigurationVx.xml file:
Note: In each location, the ConfigurationVx.xml file is searched in the following order: ConfigurationV8.xml, ConfigurationV71.xml, and so on for V8, V71, V61M1, V61, V51, V43, and V42.
If a ConfigurationVx.xml file is not found, the SDSControl.xml file is searched for in the following locations:
If the SDSControl.xml file is found, the file loads into SAS Enterprise Guide to get the autoconfig settings. Then, autoconfig is performed if it is enabled in the control file and an SDSUpdate.xml file is found. This process updates the local ConfiguationVx.xml file with the info in the SDSUpdate.xml file. Any profiles that are locally defined that are not in the update file are not affected.
For more information about the processing of the EGOptions.xml file for default options in SAS Enterprise Guide, see the documentation on ways to Deploy SAS Enterprise Guide with Customized Options. Also, see the documentation about how to Create an Initial Custom Profile Deployment using the ConfigurationV8.xml file.
