Problem Note 69744: PROC SORT might encounter a segmentation violation if you write to a compressed SAS/SHARE® library
If you perform a SORT procedure where the output data set is assigned to a SAS/SHARE library and compression is enabled, a failure can occur.
The issue occurs if the compression routines detect that the output table would be larger if compressed than if uncompressed. As a result, a message similar to the following is written to the log that is corrupted:
NOTE: Compression was disabled for data set NOTE: Co.
The corruption of this message can also lead to a traceback similar to the following being printed to the log depending on the operating environment where SAS executes:
ERROR: An exception has been encountered.
Please contact technical support and provide them with the following traceback information:

Workaround
To circumvent this issue, disable compression for the affected steps where compression would increase the data set size.
