Problem Note 68430: Microsoft Excel might close unexpectedly when displaying a SAS® Visual Analytics report that contains Display Rules with decimal value intervals

DetailsHotfixAboutRate It

When you create a SAS Visual Analytics report that contains Display Rules with decimal value intervals, Microsoft Excel might close unexpectedly if you open the report in SAS® Add-In for Microsoft Office. This problem occurs only if you set the Windows Regional Settings to French on the client machine on which Microsoft Excel and SAS Add-In for Microsoft Office are installed.

For example, you might encounter this issue when you complete steps similar to the following:

  1. Create a new SAS Visual Analytics report that contains a list table.
  2. Create new Display Rules for the list table.
  3. Use decimal values for all intervals, as shown for Age below:

decimal values for age

  1. Save the report.
  2. Open Excel and display the report.
  3. On the Results tab on the right, double-click any row in the table:

Excel closes unexpectedly and the following exceptions occur in the Excel.log:

microsoft excel has stopped working message

2021-09-20 04:28:17,981 [VSTA_Main] ERROR SAS.OfficeAddin.CustomTaskPanes.ResultsInformationPanel [(null)] - Unexpected exception with async voidSystem.NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object.   at SAS.ReportBI.ViewerHost.LegendItem.CreateGaugeBand()   at SAS.ReportBI.ViewerHost.LegendItem.CreateComponents(DisplayRulesLegendItem& lastItemModel)   at SAS.ReportBI.ViewerHost.DisplayRulesLegendView.UpdateLegendItems()   at SAS.ReportBI.ViewerHost.DisplayRulesLegendView.ViewModel_PropertyChanged(Object sender, PropertyChangedEventArgs e)   at SAS.SharedUI.MVVM.VMBase.RaisePropertyChanged(String propertyName)   at SAS.ReportBI.ViewerHost.DisplayRulesLegendVM.BuildLegend(IVisualController reportElement, Object param)   at SAS.OfficeAddin.CustomTaskPanes.ResultsInformationPanel.<HandleSelectedElementChanged>d__9.MoveNext()

As a workaround, set your Windows Regional Settings to English.
