Problem Note 68129: Tables that have received appended data do not survive a CAS worker node loss in an environment with a CAS backup controller

DetailsHotfixAboutRate It

In an environment with a SAS® Cloud Analytic Services (CAS) backup controller, global tables that have experienced append operations do not survive the loss of a CAS worker node, even if these tables have copies that should provide redundancy to overcome a worker node failure.

The following error might appear:

ERROR: A block of records on a failed node could not be activated among the remaining worker nodes.

Note: There are valid reasons for this error message, such as when a table has zero copies and a worker node fails, or if the number of failed workers exceeds the number of table copies (for example, there is one table copy, but two worker nodes have failed). The specific problem that is described here occurs only when the following conditions are all true:

  • A CAS backup controller has been deployed.
  • The table has one or more copies.
  • The table has been appended to.
  • A worker node has failed and is no longer connected to the CAS server.
