A performance issue or incorrect results might occur when the following is true:

• You use the FEDSQL procedure.
• You use the CAST function to convert a VARBINARY variable to a VARBINARY variable that is a different length. 

A performance issue might occur if some of the query is not passed to the database for execution and the processing is done in SAS^® instead. This issue has been encountered when a resulting table was created from the same database where the input tables were located. Instead of everything being processed in the database, the data is being read into SAS to be processed before being passed back to the database.

Incorrect results might occur when incorrect code is being passed to the database. This issue has been seen when a query included a UNION ALL where a CAST function appeared in both SELECT clauses. The query passed to the database correctly included the CAST on the first SELECT clause but it was missing from the second SELECT clause.
