When SAS^® software is configured with pluggable authentication module (PAM) authentication, a very long user password that contains Unicode characters might fail to authenticate. After the failure, any further authentication requests to the sasauth module might also fail.

To identify that this problem is occurring, enable sasauth debug logging and then look for text that is similar to the following in the sasauth debug log:

Note: The password length that is reported in the log will be greater than 256 characters.

A workaround is to restart the affected SAS server (usually the SAS^® Metadata Server).
