Problem Note 65582: A Microsoft Excel file does not display the correct worksheet names that are designated by the SHEET_NAME= suboption
The ODS EXCEL destination with the SHEET_NAME= suboption might not generate the correct worksheet names in an Excel file.
This issue occurs when the worksheet name is a name that is followed by a space and a number. The worksheets do not display the correct numbers but instead impose a consecutive number order within the worksheet names.
For example, you submit code with the following syntax:
ods excel file='c:\temp\test.xls' options(sheet_name='Rule 3');
proc print data=sashelp.class;
run;
ods excel options(sheet_name='Rule 2');
proc print data=sashelp.class;
run;
ods excel close;
In the XLS file, you would expect to see the first worksheet name as “Rule 3” and the second worksheet name as “Rule 2.” However, instead, the first worksheet name is “Rule 3” and the second worksheet name is “Rule 4.”
A workaround is to add an underscore character within the worksheet name in the SHEET_NAME= suboption (for example, 'Rule_3'). When the underscore characters are in place, the numerals are not changed to increment consecutively within the names of the worksheets.
