Problem Note 65880: The error "Compute Server terminated unexpectedly" occurs in SAS® Viya®
When you log in to SAS® Studio V, you receive the following error:
There was an error while starting SAS Studio.
Unable to create compute server session.
Compute server "ef35fe6f-9848-4db3-8be1-aa66bb1549aa" terminated unexpectedly.
Most often, this issue is caused by the following:
- The compsrv log location does not exist.
- The permissions to the logging location are incorrect.
To circumvent the issue, perform one of the following workarounds:
- Check for the existence of /opt/sas/viya/config/var/log/compsrv/default/ (Windows: C:\\ProgramData\SAS\Viya\var\log\compsrv\default\). If this directory does not exist, create it.
- Check the permissions of /opt/sas/viya/config/var/log/compsrv/default/ (Windows: C:\\ProgramData\SAS\Viya\var\log\compsrv\default\). The users launching a compute server session need to be members of the group that owns this directory. They must have Read, Write, and Execute permission for this location.
