Problem Note 64167: Optimizations for caslib access are available for SAS® Data Explorer in SAS® Viya® 3.4
User-interface responsiveness within SAS Data Explorer in SAS Viya 3.4 varies from one caslib type to another. Connections to remote file systems, such as Hadoop Distributed File System (HDFS), for example, might be slower due to network latency or other factors.
An update provides optimizations that improve response times for three actions:
- opening a caslib
- using the Refresh button
- selecting tables in order to obtain details
These optimizations are most useful when you want to open caslibs where the response time over the connection to a remote file system is less than optimal.
Click the Hot Fix tab in this note for a link to instructions about accessing and applying the software update.
Note: Applying the hot fix improves performance, particularly for caslibs that rely on connections to remote file systems. It does change the information that is available on the Details tab for in-memory (loaded) tables versus unloaded tables. Before this hot fix, the size on disk was provided for the table, regardless of whether the table was loaded or unloaded. After you apply this hot fix, in-memory (loaded) tables do not display the size-on-disk value. The value is shown only for unloaded tables.

For software releases that are not yet generally available, the Fixed
Release is the software release in which the problem is planned to be
fixed.
Optimizations improve user interface responsiveness when you open a caslib, click
Refresh, and navigate for table details on the
Data Sources tab.
