In SAS^® 9.3, support was added for the RELEASE procedure for data sets with extended attributes (allocated with EATTR=OPT). However, PROC RELEASE fails when you use it with a partitioned data set (PDS) that is allocated with extended attributes and resides on an extended address volume (EAV).

For example, when you run PROC RELEASE for a data set with EATTR=OPT and the data set resides on an EAV, you see a return code 8 for the job step and an error that is similar to the following in the SASLOG:

When you run the RELEASE procedure on a partitioned data set (PDS) that resides on an extended address volume (EAV), you get a return code 8 and see a message similar to the following: "ERROR: System abend B14 occurred outside of the SAS environment. ERROR: Delete current task."
