This example illustrates how to create a simple stored process and execute it as a RESTful SAS BI web service.

Example: XML Input and PDF Output

In this example, XML input is sent to the stored process, and PDF output is sent back to the client application.

1. Create a stored process called web_service_test6 that contains the following code:

        libname instream xml;
  
           /* Read the XML input stream. */

        proc copy in=instream out=work;
        run;
  
           /* Create a PDF file and send it to the client. */
  
        data _null_;
           rc = stpsrv_header('Content-type','application/pdf');
           rc = stpsrv_header('Content-disposition','attachment; filename=temp.pdf');
        run;

        ods pdf file=_webout;
 
        proc print data=work.indata;
        run;
  
        ods pdf close;

 

2. Select Properties for the stored process. Then click the Data tab.
3. Create a new source.
   
   For Sources, specify the following:
   Type: XML Data Source
   Label:  instream
   Fileref: instream
   Select Allow rewinding stream
   Expected content type: text/xml
    
4. On the Execution tab in the Stored Process Properties dialog box, select Stream (instead of Package) for the result capability.
5. Execute the stored process web service using the HTTP procedure by submitting the code on the Full Code tab.

You must provide the values for the host name and port as well as the correct path to the web_service_test6 stored process in the code for the HTTP procedure. You must also specify the path for the PDF output file in the FILENAME RESP statement.
