Problem Note 63957: The SAS® Data Studio interface in SAS® Viya® 3.4 might display the wrong selected column for a transform after you run a data plan
With SAS Viya 3.4, the SAS Data Studio user interface can show an incorrect column in the drop-down selection boxes of a data plan after the plan is run. However, the output table that the data plan generates is not affected and contains the correct results for the column that you selected initially.
The following transforms are affected by this issue:
- Calculated column
- Casing
- Change case
- Convert column
- Field extraction
- Filter
- Gender analysis
- Identification analysis
- Join
- Match and cluster
- Matchcodes
- Parsing
- Remove
- Rename
- Split
- Standardize
- Trim whitespace
- Unique identifier
This issue occurs when there are more than 20 columns in a table, and your selected column is not included within the first 20 columns of the table.
The following example demonstrates the issue:
- You navigate to Select a Source Column, to choose a column.
- In the search field, you type in the column name that you want to choose, such as ColumnA.
- After you click OK to search, ColumnA appears in the search window and you select it for your transform.
- You define an operator and value and then click Run. You notice that a different column name, not ColumnA, appears in the Column field.
Closing and reopening the plan temporarily circumvents the problem. Selected columns are displayed correctly until the plan is run again.

For software releases that are not yet generally available, the Fixed
Release is the software release in which the problem is planned to be
fixed.
After you run a data plan in SAS Data Studio, the user interface can display the wrong selected column in the plan. However, the output table shows that transforms were applied to the correct column.
