SAS Deployment Wizard fails while installing 2015 or 2017 Microsoft Visual C++ run-time components if 2017 Microsoft Visual C++ run-time components are already installed on the system. 

In this situation, the following errors are produced:

Background

The 2015 and 2017 Microsoft Visual C++ components packages cannot be installed side by side on the same Windows operating system. The 2017 components are an update to the 2015 components. Only one of these packages can be installed on a Windows operating system at a time.

Issue

In certain circumstances, when the 2017 run-time components are already installed on a Windows operating system, SAS Deployment Wizard queries the Windows registry but does not detect the presence of the 2017 components. SAS Deployment Wizard erroneously attempts to deploy the 2015 or 2017 run-time components with the present 2017 run-time components. This installation attempt produces the error messages noted above.   

Most often, this behavior is caused by a missing or invalid Windows registry key value for the 2017 components.  If a Windows registry key is missing or invalid, SAS Deployment Wizard cannot detect the 2017 components on the machine. 

Workarounds

You can choose one of the following workarounds:

• Before restarting SAS Deployment Wizard, retrieve and install the latest supported 2017 Microsoft Visual C++ run-time components from the Microsoft support site: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/2977003/the-latest-supported-visual-c-downloads.
• Before restarting SAS Deployment Wizard, uninstall the 2017 Microsoft Visual C++ run-time components that are currently installed. Then restart SAS Deployment Wizard to deploy the software. Afterward, re-install the latest 2017 Microsoft Visual C++ run-time components to satisfy other software applications that might require the latest version.
• Before the initial SAS deployment, run the SAS Deployment Wizard setup.exe file with the -SRWONLY option. Install the identified missing system requirements. Then, run the SAS Deployment Wizard setup.exe file to begin the software deployment.
