Problem Note 62591: SAS® assigns expanded length to Netezza NVARCHAR and NCHAR data types when using SAS/ACCESS® Interface to Netezza
NVARCHAR and NCHAR formatted columns are mapped to a CHAR format that is up to four times the database length under the following conditions:
- You connect to a double-byte character set (DBCS) encoded Netezza database such as UTF-8.
- You use SAS session encoding such as Latin1 or other single-byte character set (SBCS) encoding.
Here are the workarounds:
- Set the data to the VARCHAR or CHAR data type in the database before you import.
- Set the desired SAS format with the DBSASTYPE data set option upon import. (See DBSASTYPE= Data Set Option for more information.)

For software releases that are not yet generally available, the Fixed
Release is the software release in which the problem is planned to be
fixed.
