Beginning in the fifth maintenance release of SAS^® 9.4 (TS1M5), an unexpected warning message like the following can be produced when you apply a WHERE clause (predicate) to a data set view outside of PROC SQL:

The following code produces the warning message. The message is contained in the TEXT variable that is created by the SYSMSG function.  The SYSMSG function returns error or warning message text from the last data set or external file function that was processed. The code does produce the correct results.

The TEXT variable contains the warning message.

This code does not produce a warning message in earlier releases of SAS^® software. 

To circumvent the problem, create a data set from the data set view.  This is illustrated in the sample code below:
