Problem Note 62258: Using the UPCASE and INDEX functions in a WHERE clause generates a "Segmentation Violation" error
A "Segmentation Violation" error like the following might occur when you use the UPCASE function in conjunction with the INDEX function in a WHERE clause:
ERROR: An exception has been encountered.
Please contact technical support and provide them with the following traceback information:
The SAS task name is [DATASTEP]
Segmentation Violation
The following example code generates these error messages:
data work.test;
set sashelp.vstable(where=(UPCASE(LIBNAME)="SASHELP" and
UPCASE(MEMNAME)=:UPCASE("CLAS")and not index(UPCASE(MEMNAME),'_')));
run;
Omitting the UPCASE function in the LIBNAME and MEMNAME arguments causes the query to run successfully. For example:
data work.test;
set sashelp.vstable(where=(LIBNAME="SASHELP" and
MEMNAME=:UPCASE("CLAS")and not index(MEMNAME,'_')));
run;
A hot fix is planned for this issue.
