Usage Note 61459: Requirements for sending email from SAS® Visual Analytics and SAS® Report Viewer
Overview
The following products require a locally installed email client in order to email reports:
- SAS Visual Analytics Designer 7.5 and 7.51.
- SAS Visual Analytics Viewer 7.5 and 7.51.
- SAS Visual Analytics on SAS® Viya® in releases 8.1 through 8.3.
Note: Beginning with SAS Visual Analytics 8.4, you cannot launch the native email client and send an email link directly to another user. Instead, use the new copy link feature for reports and objects.
Sending a PDF of a Report
The locally installed email clients do not enable you to send a PDF of the SAS Visual Analytics report. As an alternative, you can try one of the following methods:
- Distribute the report from SAS Visual Analytics Designer (which includes a PDF by default), or distribute the report from SAS Visual Analytics on SAS Viya and choose to include the PDF.
- Print the report to PDF from any of the SAS Visual Analytics clients, and then use third-party tools to send the report via email.
About Support for Web-based Email Clients
Web-based email clients such as Gmail are not supported. The exact behavior depends on the browser. Here are some examples. You might see other behavior depending on your browser settings:
If you are using Gmail with Microsoft Internet Explorer, you might see the following message:
Could not perform this operation because the default mail client is not properly installed.
If you are using Mozilla Firefox, you might see a blank screen.
If you are using Google Chrome, nothing happens when you try to email, or you might see a "connection refused" message.
