Usage Note 61871: Data extraction from SAP using SAS/ACCESS® Interface to R/3 fails with errors such as "ERROR: Error while using RFC to SAP"

You might try to extract data from SAP via SAS/ACCESS Interface to R/3, and the operation fails. When you look at your SAS log, you can see an error that is similar to the following:
ERROR: Error while using RFC to SAP.
Additional errors can appear in the SAP system log. Examples of these errors include the following:
ERROR registration of tp RFC.SAS1 from host ??? not allowed
Program RFC.SAS1 is not registered on gateway-name
ERROR: RFC_COMMUNICATION_FAILURE
ERROR server 'gateway-name' unknown
These error messages indicate that the external program that SAS provides is not registered on the gateway. To circumvent the errors, change the settings within the SAP system to allow gateway registration. If needed, discuss this issue with your SAP administrator, or contact SAP Technical Support for further assistance.
