The initial delivery of SAS Private Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 1.7.0_161 (February 2018) did not include Java Access Bridge (JAB). JAB is necessary for customers who use screen readers or other assistive technologies. 

Note: SAS Private JREs starting with 1.7.0_171 now include JAB.

If you have an earlier Java 7 release from Oracle that enabled JAB, the accessibility.properties file was installed in your home directory at C:\users\user-id\. The Java Virtual Machine (JVM) looks for that specific file and then attempts to load JAB at start-up. If the JVM cannot start JAB, the SAS^® Deployment Wizard bootstrap JRE might fail to start because it also cannot locate the JAB libraries. You might see an error message similar to the following in the IT log file:

If you encounter this issue after installing SAS Private JRE 1.7.0_161, use one of the following workarounds: 

• Before running SAS Deployment Wizard, disable JAB with the following command, using an earlier JRE that installed JAB. Replace JRE_HOME with your specific JRE configuration details:
     JRE_HOME\bin\jabswitch -disable
   
• Remove or rename the accessibility.properties file. For example, the file can be renamed as accessibility.properties.old.
   
• Comment out the lines in the accessibility.properties file that enable the JAB classes. Add the character #, as shown here, at the beginning of the relevant lines:
     ​​​​#assistive_technologies=com.sun.java.accessibility.AccessBridge
     #screen_magnifier_present=true

If the error that is shown above occurs when you use SAS^® Download Manager to download an order, you can use any of the above workarounds. The second workaround works well, and you can rename the file again when the download is finished. When you use SAS Download Manager, the behavior is such that SAS Download Manager starts up and then advances directly to the "Completed the SAS Download Manager" panel, with the Finish button as the only selection.
