Usage Note 61519: The "...SSL Handshake Failure..." error occurs when you use SAS/ACCESS® Interface to Microsoft SQL Server on UNIX systems
When using SAS/ACCESS Interface to Microsoft SQL Server to connect to a SQL Server database, you can receive the following error:
ERROR: CLI error trying to establish connection: [SAS][ODBC SQL Server Wire Protocol driver]Socket closed. : [SAS][ODBC SQL Server
Wire Protocol driver]SSL Handshake Failure reason [Unknown SSL Error].
The problem often occurs intermittently.
The error occurs when the SQL Server driver attempts to connect to the SQL Server database, but does not connect in time.
To circumvent the problem, change the ConnectionRetryCount parameter from 0 to a higher number such as 4 in your odbc.ini file. You can also increase the ConnectionRetryDelay parameter to allow more time in between each connection attempt. Sometimes, increasing the LoginTimeout parameter can help as well.
