Problem Note 61349: SAS® Enterprise Miner (TM) 14.3 Java Web Start gives error "Unable to launch the application ..." when using Java Runtime Environment 1.7 releases
If you try to launch SAS Enterprise Miner using Java Web Start (JWS) with any release of Oracle Java Runtime Environment 1.7.0.x, an error is displayed:
Application Error
Unable to launch the application.
When you click Details, the following exception is displayed:
javax.net.ssl.SSLHandshakeException: Received fatal alert: handshake_failure : LaunchDesc:null
This problem occurs when both of these conditions are true:
* SAS Web Server is configured for SSL using SAS® Deployment Wizard
* You are using JRE 1.7 for Java Web Start.
With SAS 9.4M5 SSL deployments, newer cipher-suites are added to the SAS Web Server configuration. Those newer cipher-suites do not work with JRE 1.7.0.x releases.
To work around the problem, use JRE 1.8.0.x to launch SAS Enterprise Miner Clients using Java Web Start. See SAS Note 61038: "Recommended Java 8 versions for SAS® Enterprise Miner™ via Java Web Start".
In addition, note that SAS Private Java Runtime Environment cannot be used to create a shortcut to launch Enterprise Miner Java Web Start.
