Problem Note 60747: SAS® generates the error "Could not initialize classpath" if CLASSPATH contains national characters
When CLASSPATH contains national character, SAS generates an error when you declare a Java Object. The following replication uses a Japanese environment, as an example.
- Create a folder including Japanese characters. Here is an example:
c:\temp\テスト
- Download example from SAS Note 34616.
- Put samples.jar to the folder c:\temp\テスト.
- Start SAS English with DBCS (double-byte character set) session or a SAS Japanese session using a customized sasv9.cfg file, which contains the Japanese CLASSPATH C:\temp\テスト.
- Check CLASSPATH:
%put %sysget(classpath);
- Run the sample code from SAS Note 34616.
- The error occurs:
ERROR: Could not initialize classpath.
NOTE: The DATA step has been abnormally terminated.
To avoid this problem, do not use national characters.
