Problem Note 59340: Generating SAS® Marketing Optimization input data fails when you refine data on different subject levels

DetailsHotfixAboutRate It

In SAS® Customer Intelligence Studio generating SAS Marketing Optimization Input Data might fail when refining on different subject levels. This problem happens when you perform steps similar to the following:

The diagram below illustrates the node sets that you create:

  1. Create an optimization campaign that contains the following nodes, where the subject level is Household, in the order that is shown below:
    1. a Select node named Customers in Household
    2. a Limit node
    3. another Select node named State
  2. Then, create a second node set that contains the following nodes, where the subject level is Customer, in the order that is shown below:
    1. a Select node named Age
    2. another Select node named Gender
    3. an And node
    4. a Cell node named Age and Gender
    5. a Communication node
  3. Refine the Communication node by Gender (where subject level is Customer) and State (where subject level is Household).
  4. Add the campaign to a priority-based SAS Marketing Optimization campaign group.

If you then try to generate SAS Marketing Optimization input data for this campaign group, the attempt might fail with the following error message:

When this problem happens, the SAS Marketing Optimization middle-tier log displays the following message:

2016-11-01 16:05:26,344 ERROR [tomcat-http--23]
[d3bb005a10ac0674:-22fca7cf:158204cf2c6:-4d36] [sasdemo]
ices.impl.MarketingAutomationServiceImpl - sasdemoFailure creating or refreshing
MOMA Input Data. Exception: null
java.lang.NullPointerException

In addition, the SASCustIntelCore6.x.log file displays this message:

2016-11-01 16:05:26,622 ERROR [CIAsyncExec-9]
[d3bb005a10ac0674:-22fca7cf:158204cf2c6:-4dfe] [sasdemo]
.analytics.crm.cm.ejb.OptimizationHelper - Exception occurred in
createOptimizationInputData() - errorMsg="null"
com.sas.analytics.crm.error.client.UserException

As a workaround for this problem, you might be able to add a Map node and a Cell node to the diagram and then refine the Cell node.
