Usage Note 59914: SAS® Home might appear empty even though users are members of at least one SAS® Visual Analytics role
Overview
In some circumstances, SAS Home might appear empty even though users are members of a SAS Visual Analytics role. The following display illustrates how SAS Home might appear:
When this problem occurs, users can open the side menu and directly access the applications that are available based on their role membership. However, they are unable to use the application. For example, both SAS® Visual Data Builder and SAS® Visual Analytics Designer display the following error:
If the user attempts to access the modern version of SAS® Visual Analytics Viewer, the application might get stuck at the Loading Recents message.
Possible Causes and Resolutions
In most cases, this problem is caused by a denial of ReadMetadata permission to the SASUSERS group on User Folders. To resolve this issue, log on to SAS® Management Console with an unrestricted account such as sasadm@saspw. On the Folders tab, open the properties for User Folders. On the Authorization tab, ensure that the SASUSERS group is granted ReadMetadata permission.
If the resolution above does not work, or the permissions for the SASUSERS group on the User Folders were correct, open the Properties for the user who sees no content in SAS Home. Click the Authorization tab and check to see if there are any explicit denials (white background). In particular, check permissions for the PUBLIC group. The PUBLIC group should have inherited denials (gray background) of ReadMetadata, WriteMetadata, and ManageCredentialsMetadata. If the background is white, click the box again to change it to gray. This problem is most likely to occur for new users who have never logged into SAS Visual Analytics.
Note: For more information about how to interpret settings on the Authorization tab, see Examining Permissions in the SAS Management Console: Guide to Users and Permissions.
