Problem Note 59642: The installation process fails to continue when you click Next in the SAS® Deployment Wizard "Review Required Updates" dialog box

You might be prompted to review required updates if you run the executable to begin the installation for any of the following software:
- Software downloaded from the SAS Technical Support Downloads site (setup.exe)
- SAS® Enterprise Guide® stand-alone installer (SASEnterpriseGuide71_x86_x64.exe)
- SAS® Add-In for Microsoft Office stand-alone installer (SASAddInForMicrosoftOffice71_x86_x64.exe)
The SAS Deployment Wizard might display a page like the one below, asking you to review required updates. When you click Next, the SAS Deployment Wizard does not display a subsequent page and the installation does not progress.
Note: For your installation, the products that you see in the Review Required Updates dialog box might differ from what is shown here.
When the problem occurs, you see both of the following.
You see the following exception:
–In Your DEPLOYWIZ_date-installed_time-installed.log File (if using a download from SAS Technical Support Downloads site)
–In Your SETUP-installed_time-installed.log File if installing (if using a stand-alone installer)
In the log (for example, deploywiz_2017-01-17-9.33.8.log or setup_2017-01-18-10.44.8.log ), you see the following exception:
Exception in thread "AWT-EventQueue-0" java.lang.NullPointerException
–In Your SDW_date-installed_time-installed.log File
In this file (for example, SDW_2013-05-07-10.13.21.log), you see d4deploy90, as shown in this example:
Software Version: 904090.0.0.20161109190000_d4deploy90
Workaround
The workaround for this problem is to replace the setup.jar that was provided with your installation files with a new version of the file.
Important: If you are using a stand-alone installer, you must first complete the prerequisite step to extract your installation files to a folder before performing the workaround. If you are not using a stand-alone installer, proceed directly to the Workaround Steps.
Prerequisite Step for Stand-alone Installers
You must first extract the installation files to a folder using the steps A-C before performing the workaround.
- From a Windows command prompt, run <path-to-stand-alone-installer> /dir=<folder-to-extract-installation-files-to>
Example: C:\temp\SASEnterpriseGuide71_M1_x86_x64.exe /dir=c:\SASEnterpriseGuideInstaller
- When the Ready to Install screen appears, click Install to extract the files to the folder.
- When the Choose Language prompt appears click Cancel.
Now proceed to the workaround steps, below.
Workaround Steps
- Download and a new setup.jar file from here.
- Save the new setup.jar to the deploywiz folder.
- When the new JAR file is downloaded, rename the file 59642_setup.jar to setup.jar and place it in the deploywiz folder that is appropriate for your system. Here are two examples.

- Run setup.exe to install the software.
- Once you have replaced the setup.jar, restart the setup.exe and continue with the installation.
- If using a stand-alone installer, run setup.exe in the folder that you extracted the installation files to.
Fix
This issue is fixed in SAS 9.4 (TS1M4) revision 17w12 and later.
