Usage Note 59619: Connection considerations for Microsoft Azure
In SAS® 9.4M4 (TS1M4) and SAS® Viya® 3.3, SAS/ACCESS® Interface to Microsoft SQL Server supports connecting to a Microsoft Azure SQL database. When connecting to Microsoft Azure using SAS/ACCESS Interface to Microsoft SQL Server, you should be aware of the following considerations:
- You must use the SQL Server Wire Protocol Driver (S0sqls27.so). The SQL Server Legacy Wire Protocol Driver (S0msss27.so) does not support Microsoft Azure.
- If an error similar to "A cursor with the name ... does not exist" occurs during an update step, you need to reference SAS Note 57757, "Using the UPDATE statement with SAS/ACCESS® Interface to Microsoft SQL Server might cause the error 'A cursor with the name ... does not exist'."
- Microsoft Azure uses encryption on its communications, so you must set the EncryptionMethod parameter on the driver appropriately. Normally, setting this parameter to 1 for SSL is sufficient. For more information about the EncryptionMethod driver option, refer to the Progress website.
