Problem Note 58666: Invalid user name or password errors occur when you are using SAS/ACCESS® Interface to Vertica
Invalid user name or password errors and other fatal errors occur when you connect to Vertica databases using SAS/ACCESS Interface to Vertica. The full error message is shown below:
libname vv vertica database=my-database server="my-server.com" user=lowercase-ID password=xxxxxxx;
ERROR: CLI error trying to establish connection: FATAL 3781: Invalid username or password <Enter>
The problem occurs when the user ID that is specified in the USER= parameter contains lowercase characters. The SAS/ACCESS to Vertica engine changes any lowercase characters in the user ID to uppercase characters, which makes it invalid.
