Problem Note 58269: SASĀ® Episode Analytics 3.1 - Episodes are not being constructed properly with respect to a member's death date
In SAS® Episode Analytics 3.1, it is possible to construct episodes that incorrectly continue past the death date of a member and/or start after the death of a member.
Currently, the file that is used for identifying member death date is constructed for only those members who expired while in the hospital. Changes have been made within Episode Construction to address the detected anomalies involving member death date.
Member deaths are now determined from either the SEA_MEMBER data set or the SEA_STAY records for which the discharge status description contains the text "Expired".
If a member has multiple death dates from one or both of these sources, the earliest date is taken as the date of death.
