Problem Note 58060: SAS® Enterprise Miner(tm) Workstation fails to launch, or stops launching, and a NumberFormatException error is displayed in em_console output
When you attempt to launch SAS Enterprise Miner Workstation, one or more of these symptoms might occur:
- no visible activity occurs
- the splash screen is displayed, but nothing else happens
- SAS Enterprise Miner stops responding
One possible cause is a corrupt emuser.properties file. Follow these steps.
- Collect em_console output. Details about how to collect em_console output are provided in
SAS Note 56002: "Collecting diagnostic output from SAS® Enterprise Miner™ Client or SAS Enterprise Miner Workstation with em_console."
- Check the em_console output to see whether the following NumberFormatException text is displayed:
Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NumberFormatException: null
at java.lang.Integer.parseInt(Unknown Source)
at java.lang.Integer.(Unknown Source)
at com.sas.analytics.eminer.visuals.MainWindow.(MainWindow.java:496)
at com.sas.analytics.eminer.visuals.Main.showWIPLite(Main.java:770)
at com.sas.analytics.eminer.visuals.Main.launchWIPLite(Main.java:391)
at com.sas.analytics.eminer.visuals.Main.main(Main.java:577)
If that NumberFormatException text is displayed, then go to the next step for a workaround.
The NumberFormatException text might indicate that the emuser.properties file is corrupt. The emuser.properties file is located in the following folder:
Users\user name\emuser.properties
Users is the location of the Windows operating system Users folder.
User name is the name of the user that is logged on to the Windows operating system at the time of the issue.
Example:
C:\Users\trholt\emuser.properties
To correct a corrupt emuser.properties file, rename the existing file as emuser.properties.backup. After renaming the corrupted emuser.properties file, launch SAS Enterprise Miner Workstation. A new emuser.properties file is created, and launch should be successful.
