Problem Note 58492: Reading tape data sets fails with "ERROR: LIBRARY WEEK31 IS NOT IN A VALID FORMAT FOR ACCESS METHOD SASV7SEQ"
Reading tape data sets in SAS® 9.4 TS1M2 might fail with the following error:
ERROR: LIBRARY WEEK31 IS NOT IN A VALID FORMAT FOR ACCESS METHOD SASV7SEQ.
This error message is incorrect. The problem is not due to an invalid format, but rather due to memory allocation. The memory allocation problem occurs because Large Block Interface (LBI) support was added in SAS 9.4 TS1M2. LBI allows buffers for tape format libraries to be allocated below the 16-megabyte line. Because each tape data set has a buffer allocated for it, if you read many tape data sets, you might run out of available memory.
